Description
Amercoat 5105 Pearl Gray is an alkyd primer manufactured by PPG / Ameron. It's designed to be a corrosion-resistant primer for structural steel, suitable for both exterior and interior surfaces. It should be covered with an alkyd topcoat. Here's some information about Amercoat 5105 Pearl Gray:
- Color: Pearl Gray, also available in white and oxide red.
- VOC Compliant: Less than 2.8 lb/gal.
- Volume Solids: 60% ± 3%.
- Dry Film Thickness per Coat: 2-3 mils (50-75 microns).
- Theoretical Spread Rate: 481 ft²/US gal for 2 mils.
- Shelf Life: At least 24 months when stored cool and dry.
- Surface Preparation: Abrasive blasting, chemical treatment, or mechanical cleaning, depending on conditions and owner's specifications. Surface must be free of moisture, grease or other contaminants, and all loose rust, scale or existing paint must be removed.
- Application Method: Airless or conventional spray, brush, or roller.
- Thinning: Typically used without thinning. If necessary, thin with up to 1/2 pint of Amercoat 15 per gallon of Amercoat 5105.
- Drying Time (at 70°F/21°C):
- Dry to touch: 2 hours
- Dry hard: 6 hours
- Dry through: 24 hours
- Dry to recoat/topcoat: 12 hours (minimum)
