Keel Guards
Boat keel guards (or shields) are essential, abrasion-resistant polyurethane protective strips designed to prevent costly hull damage from sand, rocks, and concrete ramps, especially when beaching. Ranging from 4 to 12 feet long, they use high-strength 3M adhesives for DIY installation on fiberglass or smooth aluminum boats. Measure Your Boat: A general rule is to measure from the bow eye down the center of the keel to where the hull flattens out (usually 1–2 feet behind the bow).
**Width: Most standard guards are 5 inches wide, which provides ample protection for most bass boats, fishing boats, and PWCs.
Key Features & Installation
Protection: Guards protect the most vulnerable part of the hull (the keel) from scratches, gouges, and abrasion. Easy DIY Installation: Involves etching/sanding the hull, cleaning, applying primer, and then the adhesive strip. Versatility: Suitable for fiberglass and most aluminum boats.
**For optimal results, ensure the boat is clean, dry, and preferably in warmer temperatures during installation.
