Product Description
ACR GlobalFix V5 AIS EPIRB stands out as an innovative EPIRB with a unique feature set. The inclusion of AIS alerts offers the most straightforward and fastest path to rescue, while the Return Link Service (RLS) provides reassurance by delivering confirmation directly to the beacon that a distress message has been received. Near Field Communication (NFC) introduces smartphone connectivity and unprecedented access to data and product interaction. This advanced feature set makes the GlobalFix V5 an ideal choice for mariners whether they are coastal cruising, working offshore, or crossing oceans.
Advanced Technology
The new ACR GlobalFix V5 EPIRB combines 406 MHz satellite connectivity with Automatic Identification System (AIS) functionality, making it the most advanced EPIRB available. Upon activation, the EPIRB transmits your emergency signal to the global Cospas Sarsat satellite rescue system and simultaneously broadcasts an AIS safety message on VHF frequencies. This message can be immediately seen by any nearby AIS-equipped vessel. Additional features include Return Link Service (RLS) technology, which provides visual confirmation that the distress message has been received, a 121.5 MHz homing signal, and visible as well as infrared strobe lights for easy target identification in low visibility or at night. The Near Field Communication (NFC) feature allows users to monitor their EPIRB using a smartphone app. ACR continues its legacy as a global leader in marine safety and rescue technology with the GlobalFix V5 EPIRB, combining durability, reliability, and advanced technology designed to accelerate rescue response times.
Global Positioning and Rescue Coordination
The ACR GlobalFix V5 EPIRB uses GNSS networks (GPS, Galileo, Glonass) to accurately determine its position anywhere in the world. When activated, its 406 MHz distress transmissions relay its GPS position, accurate within 100 meters, to the worldwide Cospas Sarsat search and rescue satellite network. EPIRB identifiers and position information are sent to ground stations via satellite, initiating rescue operations. With advanced AIS technology now integrated, once activated, an AIS signal is transmitted so that nearby vessels outfitted with an AIS transponder are instantly notified of the EPIRB's location. AIS-equipped vessels within VHF range will see a safety message on their screens, including MMSI vessel identification. Local vessels can begin rescue operations immediately without waiting for emergency response from SAR authorities. AIS allows local responders to pinpoint the EPIRB’s location, which appears as an AIS target on their onboard display. Nearby vessels can navigate directly to the EPIRB by selecting the AIS target. This technological advancement will speed recovery times and is certain to save lives.
Smartphone Integration and Diagnostics
NFC technology enables users to access EPIRB diagnostics using their smartphones. Placing a smartphone next to the GlobalFix V5 EPIRB automatically opens the ACR Product App, providing access to EPIRB data. The app displays the beacon’s current battery life, the number of self-tests completed, the number of GNSS tests completed, and the duration the EPIRB has been activated. Detailed information on each self-test and GNSS test performed by the device is also available. GNSS tests show a map view of where the previous test was performed, the date and time, the duration to acquire GNSS coordinates, the number of satellites used, and the accuracy of the fix. Easy app connectivity via NFC allows users to check the status of all EPIRB functions to ensure proper operation.
Return Link Service (RLS)
Return Link Service provides confirmation to whoever triggers the EPIRB that their distress message has been delivered. An RLS signal sent back through the Galileo satellite network confirms that the distress message, along with precise beacon location and identifiers, has been detected. A flashing blue light indicates successful reception of the Return Link message from the Galileo satellite network. Knowing rescuers are aware of the EPIRB activation and location reduces the stress associated with mayday situations.
Conclusion
ACR specializes in electronic rescue devices and life-saving products for both professional and recreational mariners. With AIS integration, the innovative new GlobalFix V5 EPIRB provides the fastest and easiest path to rescue. Return Link Service offers security by confirming message receipt, and Near Field Communication grants access to new data and product functionality. The advanced features of the GlobalFix V5 make it ideal for mariners whether coastal cruising, working offshore, or crossing oceans.
